Bardarbunga!

I know it sounds more like something from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but I have to say that word is striking fear into the hearts of my grandchildren.

It's the volcano in Iceland which is showing heavy seismic activity with magma swelling near the surface & a string of earthquakes.

The risk to flights & other aircrafts has been raised to orange, the second highest level. If it erupts there could be tons of volcanic ash created and an exclusion zone in place of hundreds of miles to prevent the dust from destroying aeroplane engines. I remember the disruption that caused in Northern Europe four years ago.

Now why is this news affecting my grandchildren? Because they're due to fly to Disney World, Florida in 10 days!

I feel a cruise coming on!

  1. I am going to venture a guess that it will all work out okay.

  2. I do hope you're right Annie!

At least if it does happen it's near the end of the summer holidays which will minimise the disruption but it won't help the ones waiting to have a later holiday. You just can't rearrange holidays at short notice when you have children. Schools get annoyed & parents can be fined nowadays for keeping their children off school.

So we'll be watching the news every day to see what's happening.

  3. I hope that doesn't happen, but I don't think there is anyway to prevent it, is there? It would be so scary living close to a volcano. There is so much unrest in the world today. I hope they'll be able to take their trip and there will be nothing go wrong while they are on their trip. There are so many crazies around anymore you just don't know who to trust or believe. Sometimes the same person will end up giving several versions of the same story. I realize each of us see things differently, but for the same person to change their story is something else. Hoping everything works out for the best for you Grandchildren and they all end up having a wonderful time. You and hubby also have a great week-end, or at least what's left of it.

I have gotten very behind on blogging and reading blogs. Hope to improve that. I miss hearing from the friends I have made over the years through blogging.

  5. I'm sure they had a good time and forgot all about the volcano once they were there.
