Carpenters GOLD

>This Carpenters compilation CD is one I love and play a lot. I loved their music in the seventies and I still love it just as much today. Eat your heart out Pop Idols, you’ll never be as good as this. I find it hard to pick my favourite record from the Carpenters. Yesterday Once More, Rainy Days and Mondays and Superstar are all wonderful. However, if I had to pick one, I think this would be it, I Need to Be In Love. It just makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The arrangement is superb, the lyrics are sheer poetry and the voice is exquisite. Just wonderful! Here is a live version of the song and unlike many singers, Karen Carpenter was superb live. The musical arrangement on the CD is a lot better than this version but it’s just great to see them again here. She was lovely. Sadly the lyrics just about summed up Karen Carpenter's situation. Take a look at her wry smile at the end if the video.

  1. I had the Carpenters album - you know the brown one with all the hits, but I don't know this song. It's such a shame how she was so ill and died. She had one of the purest voices ever known.

  2. She had a beautiful voice. What happened to her is so sad.

  3. I had almost forgotten about them. They were so popular during the seventies. I was shocked to hear about her ill health. She seemed to hide it well to her public anyway.

  4. I, too, always loved the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter's untimely passing was a shock. I have some of their CD's, but not this song. I will have to see if I can find it.

    Happy Easter, Winifred!

  5. Gosh that bought back great memories, smooching at parties , doing the 'creep' ( anyone 40 and under would probably not know what I am talking about) they had such an incredible dreamy sound. Poor Karen!

  6. I loved the Carpenters music, and her voice was just lovely. I agree with Poetikat, such a shame she died at such a young age. Because of that insidious illness.
