I'm Definitely Losing It!

There are some days I think I’m doing OK then others when I know I’m losing the plot.  Today was one of the losing the plot days.

I decided I needed to increase my level of activity from one or two swims a week to at least three.  Doctors nowadays are daft about giving you tablets to keep your cholesterol and blood pressure levels low, well that came from the government!  The downside is that it’s proving hard for people to get travel insurance once they start you on the tablets.  It’s a mad world as those taking the tablets with the low blood pressure and cholesterol have got to be a safer bet to insure than those who don’t bother but it doesn’t work like that.

Today was the day I started to increase the swimming.  I also thought I’d try out my new swimming costume that I bought last week.  The one I currently use is two years old and has lasted amazingly well considering how many times it has been worn.  I think it’s a combination of less chemicals in the new swimming pools, think they use bio-filters and also the new chlorine resistant fabrics which some swimming costume manufacturers use.  I’ve been expecting my current costume to give up the ghost for a while and been looking for a new one.  Don't want it to disintegrate on holiday!  It’s taken a while as I’m a bit picky.  I have to say, I don’t like them too loose or after they get wet you look like a saggy sack of potatoes.  I’ve made that mistake a couple of times and bought bathers that fitted comfortably only for a couple of swims.  Now I know I need to buy them a little bit tight as they do give a little.

So I thought I’d test out my new bather today and grabbed it as I went out to swim.  It felt really great for swimming not too tight, very comfortable and definitely not saggy!  I finished the swim came out had a shower and went to get changed.  As I took off the bather I noticed the little thin plastic ring that they attach the manufacturer’s tags to the costume with.  It was still attached to one of the straps!  Had a little giggle to myself as I thought thank goodness I hadn’t left the tags on.  That would have been horrendous as Zoggs (costume manufacturer) attach four fairly large oval tags to their goods.  One tells you about the chlorine resistant fabric they use, the second tells you what size, style and colour it is and their Swim4 Fitness programme, the third tells you the leg height of the bather (most important) and the last has the Zoggs logo and website information.  Now just imagine all that that stuff flapping about on your back as you swim and you can’t see it.  I kept on smiling about it as I got ready thinking I’d hardly dare show my face again if I’d left them on.  People would be thinking what an old nutter she is, can’t even take the tags off her bather!

As I bent down to put on my shoes I stopped smiling.  This is what I saw on the floor. Yes, four soggy Zoggs tags.  Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure I dare go back!

  1. Oh that is hilarious! I would have laughed at myself for doing that. I do things like that all the time. I am just curious about the quality of your clothing in England. It seems our clothing here is not cut and sewn to fit anyone...except maybe Twiggy.

  2. Ha ha that is funny! I bet no one noticed, and it's the new trendy thing to leave your tags on....well on my caps anyway, not sure about your swimsuit!

Swimming is THE best exercise, and one I have thought seriously about returning to lately.

  4. Bad, but not as bad as the time I ran several errands with a long length of toilet paper hanging over the top of my pants before anyone bothered to tell me.

  5. They were on the floor...this gives you plausible deniability. Definitely go back!

  6. LOL! I <3 this post! Last Friday as I was getting ready to climb in the pool in my new swim suit, one of my pool mates stopped me and said, "Here, let's cut those tags off before you get in!"

  7. HAHAHAHAH Bless you.. i thought it was only me who did things like that! I remember buying a pair of jeans wearing them on a night out and on my way to the bar a friend suddenly said.. i reckon your a 28 waist and a 30 leg... ( i'm fibbing a little about sizes ;-)) "How do you know that" asks me. it turned out that i still had a sticker going up the back of my thigh telling the world my vital statistics!!

  8. Thank you all so much for your kind comments. Keeps me sane.

Brenda - I realised a few moths ago that virtually everything I wear is from Marks & Spencer. Shoes, pyjamas, underwear, skirts, blouses, jackets, sweaters, T - shirts. Only my bathing costumes are not from there. They make clothes for all ages, shapes and sizes thankfully and have loads of different collections to suit most people. Funnily enough Twiggy is one of their TV ad models. She isn't that skinny stick insect any longer though.
You can buy online from them in other countries now. Not sure how their prices would match up with yours though.

Quilly - you and I must be of the same ilk. Makes me feel much better knowing I'm not alone in this type of thing.

LL Cool Joe - I never knew it was trendy to leave tags on. Although I remember when my children wore Pods, fashionable shoes from the eighties, they had leather tags on them. The Radley handbags have those little Scottie dog leather tags too. I don't think my tags were in that league though.

Snowbrush - that's so funny, not for you though I bet. It makes a change from every woman's nightmare - leaving the back of your skirt tucked in your knickers after you've been to the loo.

Tracey - That must have been embarrassing too. I've sometimes left those stickers with the size & price on the soles of my shoes. They become visible in church when you kneel down!

    Brenda -

  11. That is so funny. I think things like that happen to all of us at one time or another. I call them senior moments.

Enjoy your next swim... ; ) I'm still chuckling.. sorry...

  12. You are definitely cute. Love this post. I wish I could make myself swim for exercise. The pool is too far with gasoline prices what they are today. Guess I'll just have to walk, not to the pool, for exercise.

  13. Swimming, walking and biking are the best exercises. Good for you taking on the challenge.

My children used to enjoy putting stickers on my back so I would walk around without knowing. They also managed to plant a banana sticker on my face once in a while and unless I glanced in a mirror, I would not find it until some kind soul told me about it.

  14. Good for you getting in that swimming, such good excersize. Fuuny about the tags, but I bet no one noticed anyway.

  15. We've all left tags on at one time or another. I'm impressed you swim! Once upon a time I tried to learn...but failed. No confidence about breathing & water so close to my face I think.

  16. How funny - I wonder if it wins over the fact that I once went to the swimming pool in my slippers!

Having never missed a week with a swim I have not been for 2 years. I would never have believed it if you told me this 2 years ago. Leave it off a few weeks and one gets used to not going. Keep it up Winnifred, I am impressed.

Did not know the BP tablets could affect holiday insurance.
