Foyle Won!

Have to say I was pleased but a little surprised but Foyle's War was the winner of The People's Detective Award  tonight at the ITV3 Specsaver's Annual Crime Awards. Just shows how popular it is. Let them try to cancel it again and ITV may have a big problem.

The coveted CWA Gold Dagger award went to Belinda Bauer's international best seller Blacklands as Best Crime Novel of the Year  beating SJ Bolton's Blood Harvest, Karen Campbell's Shadowplay and George Pelecanos' The Way Home to the post.

You can see lots more about the remaining awards on the ITV website.

  1. I was thrilled to bits Winifred! Have been watching some of the programmes highlighting each of the characters and although I enjoy most of them "Foyles War" is my favourite. I was out yesterday evening and got in just about in time to see the end of the awards programme. Excellent result. A x

  2. Hi Winifred, I wonder if you can help me...I was watching a bbc? series on youtube and now for the life of me, cannot find it again. I found Dr. Finlay series but not this one about a girl Doctor who is single, lives with her Dad and always given a nasty time by the surgeons etc. (because women were not supposed to do anything like be a Dr. back then? Any names come to mind? I'm sure its British, at least I think so. thanks for letting me tap your brain...Maggie

Was it Bramwell with Jemma Redgrave? That's the only one I can think of that I've seen.

  4. Yes, yes, yes! thats it! Bramwell...thank you Winifred! I just went over to youtube and there she was. (thanks to you!) I thought I'd never see it again. I'll look for an Anne Perry novel sometime. I also got interested in the Dr. Findlay? series via youtube. The Dr. Finlay series is new to me also and I saw some of that series on Dvd at a half price book store. Hopefully it will still be there when I get back that way. We just checked out three dvds of Detective Foyle...so 'R' & I are all set for a night of movies, we just need the popcorn. Thanks so much....=)

  5. I didn't see the remake of Doctor Finlay, I did see the original made in the sixties which was wonderful.

Hope you enjoy Foyle's War, I loved it. They have been making this since 2002 so hope you manage to see all of the series. Plenty of really great telly!

  6. That was certainly my pick. I have just finished Season 5 and cried like a baby. I'm almost afraid to move into Season 6 because 5 was so very good. Are you saying that FOYLES WAR is still in production? I thought season 6 ended it. Anyway it is the absolute BEST.

  7. I think your season 6 was our season 7 as two series were put together in the US.

The last time they tried to stop producing Foyle there was quite an audience backlash so it was brought back. There's an article by the author in the Telegraph about it giving the impression that nothing is certain about the future. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/7572134/The-return-of-Foyles-War.html

However just yesterday the company producing it went into administration which complicates the situation as the rights to the programme are not owned by them. Very complicated because founder is married to the creator of Foyle's War. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/aug/16/greenlit-target-metrodome

I suppose it could be produced again and I would have thought that winning that award would certainly show its popularity with audiences.

  9. Hi Winnifred, please dont worry, I know how life can be. I wish your husband a speedy recovery, ''siderenios'' as they say in Greek ( meaning to become as strong as steel). With everything going on Greece, it seems we might move to the UK next summer. hugs Michelle

  13. Gill - I think people in the US & Canada use Netflix to watch Foyle. Not sure if it's ever been on telly there.
